Introduction
An Effective and Gentle Approach to Conception
What is IUI?
Placing Sperm Directly Where It’s Needed for Conception
Who Should Consider IUI?
Ideal for Couples Looking for a Simple and Effective Fertility Solution IUI is an excellent option for couples facing:
Mild male factor infertility (e.g., low sperm motility or count).
Unexplained infertility, where 3-6 cycles of TI failed.
Cervical mucus issues that may prevent sperm from reaching the egg.
Women using donor sperm.
The IUI Process
Step-by-Step Care Designed to Support Your Fertility Success
1. Initial Consultation
Sperm can be collected from the male partner or a sperm donor. This is usually done on the day of the procedure through masturbation or, in some cases, through frozen sperm samples that are thawed and processed for the procedure.
2. Sperm Collection and Processing
Once collected, the sperm sample is processed to concentrate and isolate the most motile and healthy sperm. This sperm preparation increases the likelihood of fertilization by eliminating any slow-moving or abnormal sperm.
4. IUI Procedure
Once the sperm is processed, it is carefully inserted directly into the uterus using a thin, flexible catheter. This painless procedure is done in our clinic and takes only a few minutes.
Preparation:
Patients are asked to come in at their predicted ovulation window, and some may receive ovulation-inducing medication.
During the Procedure:
The IUI procedure is performed while you lie on an examination table, and most women experience little to no discomfort.
After the Procedure:
Following the procedure, you may rest briefly before resuming normal activities. Results are typically communicated after two weeks, either through a pregnancy test or follow-up.
Benefits of IUI
An Accessible, Simple, and Effective Fertility Solution
Increased Pregnancy Rates:
For couples with mild male factor infertility, unexplained infertility, or ovulatory issues, IUI can significantly increase pregnancy rates by bypassing the natural barriers sperm faces on its way to the egg.
Non-Invasive:
IUI is a minimally invasive procedure that requires no anesthesia or recovery time, making it a comfortable and convenient option for those beginning their fertility journey.
Cost-Effective:
Compared to more advanced treatments like IVF, IUI is a cost-effective fertility solution that offers a high chance of success, especially when used in combination with ovulation induction medications.
Factors Influencing Success
- Age of the female partner, with higher success rates in younger women.
- Overall health and any underlying fertility issues.
- Sperm quality, including motility and count.
- The use of ovulation induction medications, which can improve the chances of success by ensuring optimal timing of ovulation.
